Updates from the studio of Josée Aubin Ouellette

There’s a whole other sort of magic in Glasgow. Here we are in our new late 19th century tenement flat, which we have barely left since we arrived last night because we are busy sleeping. We live one block from the School of Art and a fabric store, and across the street from the art store, but are still looking for a good bakery. Hello Glasgow, hopefully we can hang out tomorrow!

I tried to capture what I love about the city to take with me, and ended up with lots of construction shots and geometry. I wish I had made a more serious project of this because there are so many special places.

Portable Art in the making!
Postering today!
Institute PArachute and The Works Art and design Festival Presents:
The Fourth Annual Portable Festival of Portable Art
Invented in 2007, e Portable Festival of Portable Art is a miniature festival without walls. It is an experi- mental means of exhibition that challenges the relationship between art-making and exhibition. It is an op- portunity to experiment on the influence of gallery space and institutions over the production of art. It is a comment on the necessity for young artist in Edmonton to function autonomously and create their own exhi- bition opportunities. is year, the art will travel.
On Sunday June 27th, 2010, Institute Parachute invites you to be part of our fourth portable art fair in which art of all stripes and colours will march together in a parade around Sir Winston Churchill Square. Crowds, gathered for the adjacent Works Art and Design Festival, will watch in bewildered excitement as we roll, cart, carry, wheel, ride and/or walk our art exhibition around the block.
Artists will meet at the Observation Deck of Centennial Pavilion (above Tix on the Square) at 1pm, where we will gather in preparation for the parade. Bring your: banners, vehicular sculptures, performances, games, puppet shows, collapsible or flying objects, wearable art, time machines, science experiments, speeches, research presentations, robots, magic tricks, concept bands, bicycles, etc.
Schedule of Events:
1pm: Artist Arrivals and Registration
1:30 pm: Opening Ceremonies
2pm: Parade Commences
3pm: Parade Ends at Centennial Pavilion
3-4pm: Closing Ceremonies and Cake
For the last few months I have been preparing this year’s Nextfest Visual Arts programming. Finally, the show opens today, 10 am-7pm, and will be open every day until June 13th.
I had the opportunity to use the Gallery at Enterprise Square, the temporary home of the AGA during their renovations. What a dream! The work of 28 artists is displayed in a 20 000 square meter professional gallery space. The power of a space can be really magical… you’ll have to come see for yourself.
The Opening Party is Friday from 7-10 pm. Photos to come!
I am Moving to Glasgow.
To do my MFA at the prestigious Glasgow School of Art.
This is: Made in Canada (Glasgow in Bottle at 1: 75000 scale)
A painting submission for a scholarship application. The requirement we to submit a A5 painting about the City of Glasgow.
It is sort of the city skyline in the Botanic Gardens building, on a barge, on train wheels, flying through the air with canvas sails, and an airship, with the glasgow crest on it. I hope they like it.
I shipped it in a wooden crate packed with wine corks.
It cost me 120$ to ship!
